About Our Counseling Services

Maybe it seems like you’ve tried everything and nothing is helping you feel unstuck. Maybe you’re experiencing loneliness and confusion with the weight of the world on your shoulders. You might be wondering what counseling even looks like and how it could help.

At True Hope, I use a combination of Developmental and Relational Trauma Therapy (DARTT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR. I have found these methods to be a powerful and effective combination that addresses the root issues leading people to counseling. When these practices are applied, the path to transformation and healing unfolds.

For those who want their faith integrated into their counseling, I also use Experiential Healing Prayer with Attachment-Focused EMDR and DARTT to help clients experience inner healing through spiritual connection.

What is Developmental & Relational Trauma Therapy (DARTT)?

The Developmental and Relational Trauma Model, as taught by the Healing Our Core Issues Institute, focuses on providing relief and healing to individuals who have experienced suffering, enabling them to rediscover joy and fulfillment in life and foster deeper connections in relationships. Developmental trauma encompasses various forms of abuse and neglect experienced from birth to age eighteen, including emotional, physical, sexual, spiritual, intellectual, or neglectful abuse. It emphasizes that what may seem normal to a child can actually be traumatic, shaping their personal development and relationships.

The model acknowledges that even individuals from seemingly ideal families can have wounds and dysfunction due to the imperfect nature of parenting and the transmission of pain across generations. Many people carry unresolved core wounds from their developmental years, leading them to develop adapted selves to navigate their environment, which may hinder their ability to form healthy relationships in adulthood. The aim of the Developmental and Relational Trauma Model is to help individuals identify these wounded and adapted parts of themselves, understand their origins, and learn to live as healthy, functioning adults capable of meaningful and successful relationships.

“Family dysfunction rolls down from generation to generation, like a fire in the woods, taking down everything in its path until one person in one generation has the courage to turn and face the flames. That person brings peace to their ancestors and spares the children that follow.
